Affordable Housing Resources

Affordable Housing Resources' mission is create affordable housing and strong neighborhoods. AHR serves as a one-stop shop for anyone considering buying a home. AHR provides several programs for potential homebuyers, including assistance with down payment, assistance with closing costs and home buyer counseling. Through their HomeOwnership Center, the Home Company and their partnerships with other public and private organizations, Affordable Housing Resources seeks to serve every need every home buyer may have.

The Mayor's Office of Affordable Housing

The Mayor's Office of Affordable Housing facilitates the production and preservation of affordable housing and the development of sustainable communities throughout Nashville and Davidson County. The Office partners with other public and private organizations to provide affordable units for rental and purchase, incentives for developers and to build strong communities. The Office also offers a the Metro HoME Program which assists with down payments costs for Metro Employees desiring to purchase a home within Davidson County.

Metropolitan Housing and Development Agency (MDHA)

The Metropolitan Housing and Development Agency (MDHA) serves the Metro Nashville area by providing affordable housing opportunities in a safe environment, and by revitalizing and maintaining neighborhoods. MDHA is also primarily responsible for the housing, urban and community development programs for Metro Nashville.

Nashville Area Habitat for Humanity

The Nashville Area Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit organization that works to build quality, affordable homes for everyone. Through donations from sponsors, churches, companies and volunteers, Habitat builds over 20 homes in the Nashville area a year. Habitat also educates people how homeownership helps to make significant positive changes in their lives.

The Housing Fund

The Housing Fund's mission is to provide financial resources to those families of low and moderate income interested in becoming homeowners. NHF offers several programs for potential buyers, including home buyer counseling, down payment assistance and development loans. Their Front Door Program is one of the most successful programs for potential homeowners to find their way into the American Dream. NHF also works with for-profit and nonprofit developers to increase the supply of desirable affordable housing in Nashville.

The Tennessee Housing Development Agency (THDA)

The Tennessee Housing Development Agency (THDA) works to be the lead state agency providing affordable housing opportunities. THDA works with everything from Section 8 all the way up to mortgage assistance for potential homeowners.

The Fannie Mae Foundation

The Fannie Mae Foundation promotes home ownership and provides products and services that make it possible for low- moderate-, and middle-income families to own a home. Fannie Mae works with lenders, developers, credit unions and banks to help make the American Dream a reality for families.

U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) seeks to increase home ownership, support community development and increase access to affordable housing free from discrimination. Locally, HUD provides information on decent affordable rental housing, as well as counseling, housing information for seniors and housing information for those with disabilities. HUD also provides homeownership assistance programs.

The Nehemiah Program

The Nehemiah Program is the nation's largest privately funded down-payment assistance program. The program grants money to potential homebuyers with income and good credit, but who need down payment assistance or help with closing costs. The Nehemiah Corporation as a whole is a non-profit community development company who specializes in affordable housing, community development and homeownership.
